I began writing when I was very young, influenced by an artistic family and a powerful connection with nature. I have published poetry and short fiction as well as essays. My essays have appeared in Parabola, Orion, ReVision and EarthSpirit. In a review for Parabola Magazine of Face to Face, Women Writers on Faith Mysticism and Awakening, Fran Shaw wrote that my essay "takes the me out of memoir," allowing the Self to "shine through."I am the author of five small books of poetry, and a collection of short fiction.

Artistic collaborations of all kinds have long interested me, and my history includes the design and execution of complete performances with dancers and musicians in theaters, nightclubs, and University settings. I work frequently with musicians, movers and visual artists, combining text with images, movement and sound. My work with sculptor Bruce Johnson led to the writing of The Poet’s House, a book length poem based on a study of natural cycles and the underlying creative energy of the cosmos. To see Bruce's sculpture and find more information about the Poetry House project, see his website: <www.formandenergy.com>.

My Awards include - the Hugh Luke Fiction Award and finalist in the Katherine Anne Porter Prize for Fiction; the San Francisco Small Press Traffic award for poetry, the Eve of Saint Agnes Poetry Award, Honorable Mention in the The Wildwood Prize in Poetry, Honorable Mention in the Oberon Literary Magazine poetry competition, and finalist in the Felix Pollak Prize for poetry. My short story "Susanna Dancing," was a PEN Syndicated Fiction Project selection and the first chosen for PEN's radio series. I was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2000 and have been a resident at The Mesa Retreat for Writers in Point Reyes California.
